As a part of continuing evaluation activities, the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) requested that UT SWORPS conduct an equity evaluation, assessing the degree to which extended learning programs are serving the most at-risk segments of the Tennessee student population. The Program Evaluation Unit worked with secondary data from multiple sources to overlay the location of extended learning programs with a map of counties determined to be economically distressed by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). The mapping project demonstrates that extended learning programs are meeting their mission of serving this segment of the at-risk student population by enrolling a larger proportion of students from these distressed counties. The report highlights the status of 15 distressed counties across multiple socio-economic indicators and details the resource allocations made by extended learning programs.
